In the Blind Watchmaker Richard Dawkins asserts that  specialists are wired  for specific tasks . In almost all cases specialism involves trade offs . Begging the question do we need to start screening out surgeons who can spell .

He argues intelligence is not unitary or entirely verbal . This myth belongs firmly in the last century . West argues we no longer need the skills possessed by medieval clerks we need visionaries .
