At the age of 15, Einstein left his school in Munich to attend a Swiss school founded by Pestalozzi, an educational reformer, who founded a chain of schools. Based on novel insights on visual methods of learning and teaching . The student not teacher is the focus of his new approach.
Basic to Pestalozzi’s approach was the view that “conceptual thinking is built on visual understanding and visual understanding is the basis of all knowledge”
.
The school used maps, diagrams, and other visual materials for instruction. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal.
Each item of learning was carefully linked to a visual base image in accordance with Pestalozzi’s principles.. In relation to smart drugs the role of the visual base image is to anchor thought , providing something concrete to refer back to and reflect upon .
Modern neuroscience supports Pestalozzi’s methods . The picture superiority effect [PSE] has established that while we recall 10% of what we hear after 3 days . Add imagery and boost recall to 65%.
Neuroscience tells us we can dispense with external imagery . The brain does not know the difference .
Why over tax the 10 percent if a better way exists !
If you are a sub vocaliser then the alternative involves imprinting content through repetition . This involves using an inner voice to repeat content over and over .
The practical benefits of the PESTALOZZI approach . When you add imagery you encode information into more than one area of the brain . Create more hooks and you wil boost powers of recall .
Einstein flourished in an environment which embraced this styles of thinking .
The evidence that his style of thinking was nonverbal and visually mediated cannot be doubted.
We designed this course to be a hands on experience .
On day one . We aim for a 10% improvement ..
10 Years ago the Academy of Medical Sciences produced a report
‘Just a small 10% improvement in memory will have a significant impact on A levels [SATS] , college admissions and degree performance for everybody’
At the end of your time with us we aim for a bump in effective IQ [attributed to working memory] of between 3 and 7 IQ points.
“ The practical benefit of better focus, attention and working memory
I remember getting just completely absorbed in one book, and then another, and as I was writing. I was making connections between them [and] actually enjoying the process of putting ideas together. I hadn’t had that before.”
